- Help!
-
- The power supply caved in in my 2000 last week, (after I had been
- running a 060 for about a day) so I purchased a PC type replacement
- and fitted that. The voltages etc. check out OK, but the problem is
- that there is sever distortion of images on screen. It is hard to
- describe, but the screen is not as bright as before, and text is
- indistinct, it seems as if a single bitplane has "slipped" and created
- a shadow image one pixel away from any text. In addition mouse
- movements are ignored, however I can still bring up the early bootup
- menu by pressing both mouse buttons. I have tried swapping the even
- and odd CIA chips but to no effect.
-
- The 2000 has a rev 6.2 motherboard with 3.1 ROM and a 1 meg agnus and
- an ECS denise. I replaced the denise with the original OCS denise and
- also tried a 1.3 ROM. it would appear as if the Agnus has been damaged
- by the old power supply as according to the 2000 schematics (in the
- manual) changing the position of J300 (to allow a PC supply) should
- connect TBASE to _VSYNC.
-
- However, doing this causes the machine to go into an endless booting
- sequence of dark screen/light screen (on 1.3), whereas leaving the
- jumper in the original position allows the machine to boot up but with
- the problems described above. Leaving the jumper unset i.e. open also
- causes endless rebooting. BTW all testing was done on a bare machine
- with no cards or external drives fitted.
-
- At the moment I am guessing that it is just the Agnus that is gone,
- and that it is the absence of a tick signal that is causing the mouse
- problems.
-
- Alternativley both the CIAs are blown and there is some other problem
- as well.
-
- Any clues?
-
- ( I know there just was a discussion on power supplies, but my news
- system is on my amiga, and my news server has purged all the relevant
- messages)
-
- Could any replies be copied in email please, becasue we have up to a 6
- day lag on our news server at the moment.
-
- Thanks in advance,
